Configuration

Every mechanic, rate and threshold of Mekanistic Geothermal is configurable. The defaults are mild; a modpack can make the mod harder or easier, or turn any mechanic off.

Files

File Side What it holds
config/mekanismgeothermal-server.toml Server (synced to the players) Everything that changes the game: tiers, drilling, heat, production, safety, eruptions, interference, exhaustion, upgrades, adapter
config/mekanismgeothermal-client.toml Each player Display of the guide

The server file is created with its defaults the first time the game or the server starts. To use different settings in one world only, copy the file to <world>/serverconfig/mekanismgeothermal-server.toml and edit that copy.

Changes to the server file are reloaded while the game runs: no restart needed.

Percentages

Ratios are written from 0 to 1: 0.8 is 80 %. The pressure is the fill ratio of the wellhead's steam tank.

Server options

[tiers]

Per-tier wellhead settings. Tiers improve capacities, steam rate and drilling speed, never temperature.

[tiers.basic]

Option Default Range or values Description
energyCapacity 400000 > 1 Energy buffer (FE).
maxEnergyInput 4000 > 1 Maximum energy accepted per tick (FE/t).
drillEnergyPerBlock 4000 > 0 Energy consumed per drilled block (FE).
drillTicksPerBlock 40 1 ~ 72000 Ticks needed to drill one block.
casingSlots 4 1 ~ 4 Casing slots of the interface (64 casings each).
debrisSlots 18 1 ~ 54 Slots of the debris inventory.
waterCapacity 32000 > 1 Water tank capacity (mB).
steamCapacity 64000 > 1 Steam tank capacity (mB). Its fill ratio is the pressure.
maxSteamRate 400 0 ~ 1000000 Maximum steam output (mB/t) at temperature factor 1, without interference or exhaustion.
controlEnergyPerTick 20 > 0 Energy consumed per tick by the control system once the column exists (FE/t).

[interface]

Interface

Option Default Range or values Description

[drilling]

Drilling

Option Default Range or values Description
casingsPerBlock 1 1 ~ 64 Steel well casings consumed per drilled block.
autoStart false Drilling starts by itself when the wellhead is placed and whenever the target is deeper, instead of waiting for the "Start drilling" button. Repairs of the column never wait for the button.
targetChangeStopsDrilling true Changing the target depth stops the drilling until the "Start drilling" button is pressed again.
fakePlayerUsesOwnerProfile true The drilling fake player uses the wellhead owner's profile, so claim mods apply the owner's permissions.
columnCheckInterval 100 20 ~ 12000 Ticks between two integrity checks of the casing column.

[heat]

Heat. Temperature depends on the absolute Y of the well bottom and on the dimension profile.

Option Default Range or values Description
boilingTemperature 100.0 0.0 ~ 10000.0 Temperature (°C) under which no steam is produced. The temperature factor is 0 here.
maxTemperature 250.0 1.0 ~ 10000.0 Temperature (°C) at which the temperature factor reaches 1.
maxTemperatureFactor 1.0 0.0 ~ 10.0 Cap of the temperature factor. Above 1, lava around the bottom can push production past the tier max rate.
dimensionProfiles ["minecraft:overworld=overworld", "minecraft:the_nether=nether", "minecraft:the_end=end"] Heat profile of each dimension, as "namespace:path=profile". Profiles: overworld, nether, end, other. Unlisted dimensions use the "other" profile.

scanInterval 200 20 ~ 12000 Ticks between two lava scans.
bonusPerBlock 2.0 0.0 ~ 1000.0 Temperature bonus (°C) per lava source block found.
bonusMax 50.0 0.0 ~ 10000.0 Maximum total lava bonus (°C).

[production]

Water to steam conversion

Option Default Range or values Description
purgeEnabled true Lose part of the water as blowdown.
purgeRatio 0.05 0.0 ~ 1.0 Fraction of the consumed water lost as blowdown: steam = water x (1 - purgeRatio).
productionNeedsEnergy false Stop producing steam when the wellhead has no energy. By default, boiling is passive and energy only powers the control system (automatic shutdown, low-water lock).

[safety]

Pressure is the fill ratio of the internal steam tank. The control system (automatic shutdown, low-water lock) runs on the wellhead energy (tier controlEnergyPerTick); without energy it cannot act. The emergency stop always works.

Option Default Range or values Description
valveEnabled true Enable the safety valve (needs air right above the wellhead).
valveOpenThreshold 0.8 0.0 ~ 1.0 Pressure at which the safety valve opens.
valveVentRatio 0.5 0.0 ~ 10.0 Steam the open valve can vent per tick, as a fraction of the max steam rate (upgrades included). It vents down to the opening threshold only. Under 1, the valve slows a pressure rise without stopping it, so the automatic shutdown stays reachable; at 1 or more, an unobstructed valve holds the pressure at its threshold.
valveNeedsEnergy false The valve needs energy to open. By default it is mechanical and only needs air above the wellhead.
autoShutdownEnabled true Enable the automatic shutdown on high pressure.
autoShutdownThreshold 0.9 0.0 ~ 1.0 Pressure at which production stops automatically.
autoRestartThreshold 0.5 0.0 ~ 1.0 Pressure under which production restarts after an automatic shutdown.
lowWaterShutdownEnabled true Once the water tank runs dry, keep production stopped until the water is back over the restart threshold.
lowWaterRestartThreshold 0.1 0.0 ~ 1.0 Water fill ratio over which production restarts after a low-water shutdown.

[eruption]

Eruption: the well is at full pressure, still heated and fed, and nothing relieves it (valve obstructed, disabled or unpowered, automatic shutdown disabled or unpowered). After the grace period, each second rolls the chance.

Option Default Range or values Description
mode "DISABLED" DISABLED, STEAM_JET, EXPLOSION DISABLED, STEAM_JET (burn damage, no block damage) or EXPLOSION.
gracePeriod 600 0 ~ 72000 Ticks at full pressure before any eruption can happen.
chancePerSecond 0.02 0.0 ~ 1.0 Chance per second of an eruption once the grace period is over (0.02: about 50 s on average).
steamJetRadius 5 1 ~ 32 Radius (blocks) of the steam jet.
steamJetDamage 8.0 0.0 ~ 1000.0 Burn damage dealt by the steam jet.
steamJetReleasedSteam 0.5 0.0 ~ 1.0 Fraction of the steam tank released by a steam jet.
explosionPower 4.0 0.0 ~ 20.0 Explosion power (TNT = 4).
explosionBreaksBlocks true The explosion breaks blocks (through the standard explosion event, so claim mods can filter it). When false, it only hurts entities.
explosionDropsWellhead true The wellhead is blown off as an item that keeps its contents, like a dismantled wellhead. When false, it is destroyed with its contents (debris still drops).

[interference]

Interference between nearby producing wells.

Option Default Range or values Description
enabled true
radius 24 1 ~ 256 Horizontal radius (blocks) within which wells interfere.
strength 0.25 0.0 ~ 1.0 Penalty caused by one neighbour at distance 0, decreasing linearly to 0 at the radius.
max 0.75 0.0 ~ 1.0 Maximum total interference.
checkInterval 100 20 ~ 12000 Ticks between two searches for producing neighbours.

[exhaustion]

Slow, reversible heat exhaustion, stored per column in the world data (it survives the wellhead). Per day, at a load L (steam made / tier max steam rate): exhaustion += gainPerDay x L - recoveryPerDay x max(0, 1 - L). A well without a loaded wellhead recovers at the idle rate. The defaults stay mild: at most 15 % of the rate, reached after about 15 days of continuous production (7.5 with 8 Speed upgrades), and a well under 83 % load never wears.

Option Default Range or values Description
enabled true
gainPerDay 0.01 0.0 ~ 1.0 Exhaustion gained per Minecraft day (24000 ticks) at full load.
recoveryPerDay 0.05 0.0 ~ 1.0 Exhaustion recovered per Minecraft day while the well is idle.
max 0.15 0.0 ~ 1.0 Maximum exhaustion: the largest share of the steam rate it can take.
countsUpgradedLoad true Steam over the tier max steam rate (Speed upgrades) counts in the load: twice the steam, twice the wear. Off: the load is capped at 1.

[upgrades]

Mekanism Speed and Energy upgrades (Mekanism's upgrade tab, or sneak + right-click the wellhead with the upgrade). With n of the 8 upgrades, a multiplier M applies as M^(n/8), like Mekanism machines.

Option Default Range or values Description
enabled true Accept Mekanism Speed and Energy upgrades.
speedMultiplier 10.0 1.0 ~ 1000.0 Drilling speed factor with 8 Speed upgrades. Drilling energy per tick grows with its square, as in Mekanism.
energyMultiplier 10.0 1.0 ~ 1000.0 Energy use divisor with 8 Energy upgrades.
energyRaisesCapacity true Energy upgrades also multiply the energy buffer, as in Mekanism.
speedAffectsSteam true Speed upgrades also raise the max steam rate (off: they only speed up drilling).
steamMultiplier 2.0 1.0 ~ 100.0 Max steam rate factor with 8 Speed upgrades, when speedAffectsSteam is on. The water use follows.
speedRaisesControlEnergy true When Speed upgrades raise the steam rate, the control system energy grows with the square of that factor, as Mekanism machines (x4 with 8 Speed upgrades and the default steamMultiplier); Energy upgrades still divide it.

[adapter]

Logic adapter

Option Default Range or values Description
maxLinkDistance 64 1 ~ 4096 Maximum distance (blocks) between a Configurator-linked adapter and its well.

Client options
